Yollie via " Mom and Daughter”, by Gary Soto is usually remarkable because she has many admirable attributes while this story happens at Yollie's house. Yollie is very clever. Her is very poor. The lady often is known as a joker but has to deal with her mom teasing her back. Yollie is very clever, poor, a joker, and extremely lovable but her mom and her struggle to locate more money for them to buy new things. Yollie shows many characteristics throughout the story, " Mother and Daughter”. In the beginning from the story mcdougal states that she is extremely intelligent. She's the smartest child at her school, St . Teresa's. One other example is actually a wizard at the school's monthly transliteration bee. Both of these examples present she is very intelligent. Although Yollie and her mom were seeing a scary movie, Yollie was tired from playing soccer with her neighbours; she didn't want to keep her eyes open so the lady woke up and said " Mom can you wake me up following your movie has ended so I can go to sleep. ”(p. 110) Yollie's mother didn't wake her up so Yollie went to the kitchen and put a glass of drinking water and set it on her mother's nightstand next to her alarm clock. Another of Yollie's jokes was the up coming morning she woke up to create breakfast. She burnt her mom's toast " accidentally”. These were examples showing how Yollie is actually a joker. In the middle of the story, mcdougal states that Yollie and her mother are very poor. This doesn't mean that they reside in the streets begging for cash but it means they have only very little cash that they need to save to pay for residence bills as well as to save pertaining to college. One of these is after they just put in one hundred dollars on the dented Chevy Nova. An additional example is when Yollie needed a brand new outfit to get the 8th grade fall season dance however they don't have the amount of money to buy a fresh outfit. The reason why they did not have enough money since Yollie's mommy had small money saved for Yollie to go to school.
